Физическое сдерживание, методы безопасности — физико-технические меры безопасности, направленные на предотвращение неконтролируемой утечки живых организмов, содержащих рекомбинантные или др. опасные ДНК, из лабораторий или производственных помещений. Большинство стран пользуется 4 уровнями безопасности (BL 1-BL4): BL1 — наиболее низкий уровень, когда не требуется отдельная лаборатория, специальное защитное оборудование и специальное обучение персонала (достаточно владеть обычной микробиологической техникой); BL2 — этот уровень требует ограничения доступа в лабораторию, биологически безопасных покрытий в комнатах и автоклавов; BL3 — требует более серьезных дополнительных мер: правом доступа в лабораторию обладают только лица, имеющие разрешение, и специально обученный персонал (т. е. персонал, знакомый с методами работы с патогенными или потенциально опасными для жизни агентами), который должен носить защитную одежду; все поверхности лаборатории должны быть защищены, а лаборатории — оборудованы воздушными шлюзами и обязательно обеспечены отрицательным давлением воздуха; BL4 — наиболее строгий уровень защиты, требующий специального отдельного здания без окон, очистки воды и воздуха, наличия непроницаемых для воздуха дверей (шлюзов) и защитной одежды с повышенным давлением (см. Биологическое сдерживание).
